Facts about High and Mighty:

High and Mighty was launched in Hull in the year 1956 by Taylor Bernard Levy, as a mail order company. The company's first store was founded in Edgware Road in London in 1959 as Northern Outsize Menswear, and then it went on to make many more stores. The company changed its name to High and Mighty in the 1970s, and in 1979 it started stores in New York City and Stamford, Connecticut, doing business as London Majesty. It was, though, required to close the two US stores in 1991.

In 1990, Bernard Levy's daughter, Judith Levy, became chairman and managing director, and in 1996 her sister, Ruth Levy-So, came as business development director. By 2000, the company had 23 stores in the UK and 10 in Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands, and introduced its own urban street wear brand, Kayak. In September 2009 it went into pre-pack administration and was quickly bought by the N Brown Group's main subsidiary, mail order firm JD Williams, for £1.6 million. 14 of the 21 stores were included in the acquirement, and the N Brown management said that they wanted to revive and develop the chain, which is N Brown's first branded entry to the high street. The High and Mighty e-commerce was rapidly extended after the purchase, and numerous new stores were planned. By September 2010, the number of stores had increased from 14 to 17, and the flagship store on Edgware Road had been revived and reintroduced with the new High and Mighty look.

This shop specializes in clothing for 'big or tall men'. It's nice to see a high street shop catering for sizes outside of the average range, as high street shops are usually quite limited. The range of sizes is pretty vast with trouser waists ranging from 32" to 60"! The choice is good for men who like brand names like Ben Sherman, Lee Cooper and Animal with a quite an 'average-bloke' look of standard jeans, t-shirts, shirts and hoodies. They also sell formal wear and when I visited they even has a range of kilts on display.
